MT 146 - "Oil content" of emulsifiable pesticide concentrates
Content Handbook F
Outline of method
The weighed sample is eluted through a mixed bed of macro reticular anion and cation exchange resins with pentane as solvent. The eluate is evaporated free of solvent, and the residue is expressed as a percentage of the original sample.
Scope
This method may be used to determine the maximum oil content of 'spray oils', i.e. emulsifiable pesticide concentrates. The result obtained is the maximum 'oil content', as any non-ionic compounds present are also measured. Material removed from the concentrate would be ionic emulsifiers and the active component(s) of the pesticide, if they are ionic e.g. DNOC.
